The modern analytical chemistry provides essential knowledge about the composition of materials, chemical, biological, environmental, and technological processes. The research group primarily focuses on two main areas: separation sciences and surface analytical research. They conduct basic and applied research in developing chromatographic methods, modeling retention processes, water and drug analysis, researching the physicochemical basis of complex equilibria and new principle-based analytical separations, designing and developing stationary phases. Additionally, the research group deals with the surface modification of layered clay minerals, production of their nanostructures and hybrids, structural and surface characterization, fabrication of photocatalytically active composites, and formation mechanisms of electrocatalytic mixed oxide coatings.
Over the past years, the research group has investigated the ion-exchange separation of therapeutic proteins, monoclonal antibodies, the effect of stationary phase structure and particle size distribution on chromatographic efficiency, preparative chromatographic applications of packed-bed stationary phases, intercalation processes of high iron-content kaolinite, its exfoliation behavior and photocatalytic activity, as well as the applicability and surface analytical characteristics of non-toxic clay mineral-based nanocomposites produced by the research group.
